christopher.harrison@newcastle.ac.ukBiography
I am passionate about discovery, innovation, and making scientific knowledge accessible to all.
Over my career I've led a variety of challenging projects covering astrophysics research (observational and simulations), sonification research, international science communication programmes, and designing new approaches for accessible education. With these projects, I've had the privilege of leading diverse teams and working with partners both within and outwith academia.
I'm driven by making an, inclusive and supportive workplace. I particularly care about helping early-career professionals reach their full potential. Therefore I have invested heavily in developing myself as an empathetic leader and facilitating a positive workplace culture.

Project Title
Resolving How Black Holes Influence Galaxy EvolutionProject Summary
I am an astronomer with the main goal of understanding how galaxies formed, and a particular interest in the role of growing supermassive black holes (i.e., Active Galactic Nuclei; AGN) and galaxy dynamics. Towards this I have been successful in obtaining telescope time, from a suite of observational facilities covering the electromagnetic spectrum, to study both nearby and distant galaxies. I also am interested in using simulations to directly compare to the observations. My work has led to a series of publications written by me, my students or my collaborators. More recently I have started working in the area of sonification - using sound to represent data to enhance scientific discovery and to make science more accessible.
