Educating people about the ubiquity of petrochemicals in our everyday lives, and how biotechnology can not just transform but potentially reverse the damaging impact that our society currently has on the environment. That, and wine.

Project Title
Non-Enzymatic Catalysis in the Microbial Cell InteriorProject Summary
My research focusses on the genetic engineering of bacteria to valorise waste carbon (e.g. CO2, plastic, lignin) into industrial chemicals that are currently manufactured from diminishing fossil fuels. My lab also combine chemical and biological catalysis in living cells through a process we call "biocompatible chemistry". I am fascinated by the potential of modern biotechnology to reverse the effects of modern industrial activities on the environment and planet.
